My greatest achievement on my course is being the only one to achieve a Distinction first time in an assignment where we had to create our own magazine which is something I thought I’d struggle in. I found my secret love for digital arts focusing on journalism such as magazine production and many different design aspects. It released this undeniable joy for the subject, creating my own magazine from scratch and succeeding in it showed a side to me I didn’t know existed. Whether it be a magazine front cover or a website creation, my unique outlook on life was admired by my classmates – shown by my cover being chosen in a group assignment we completed.

My current course has allowed me to explore different features of journalism rather than just the writing aspects. An aspect I have improved is blogging. As a regular blogger I have pivoted towards sharing my personal experiences on love and relationships alongside giving reviews for raves and festivals.

I enjoy exploring new places and it’s rare for me to not go on at least two holidays a year. From this, I am able to take photographs which is an interest that I have outside of college. I work hard outside of college to earn money which allows me to fund these holidays instead of living out of my parents pockets. I work in retail and I am responsible for representing the brand name and dealing with customers. In my first year of college I didn’t have a single day off during term times due to being at college or work seven days a week. This shows that I am a hard-working individual who can juggle the demands of an independent work life and my studies. I always meet assignment deadlines and maintain exceptional grades alongside the busy social and work life I live.
My online website portfolio has a strong structural design that looks professional yet still maintains a unique style that reflects who I am. Within sixth form I didn’t enjoy the designing element of ICT but since taking this course I have gained new skills, especially with InDesign and Photoshop.

Alongside these interests I take pride in my love for Drum and Bass even though people associated with this genre of music aren’t portrayed in a positive light I enjoy going to a rave and skanking, it brings me my happiness. From these raves I take videos and have previously been contacted by a DJ (Mollie Collins) for their permission to post my video on their Instagram, even though it was taken on my phone and I never expected anything to come from it.

Although the course has given me a taste of design I am eager to develop my skills and knowledge at university. I found my design style is to work organically to create a well-made end product. I am aware that a more planned approach to design is something I need to improve and I have the desire to try new approaches to further my success.
